City Transitions to New Hauler for City-wide Solid Waste Services

Overview

On June 23rd, the City Council accepted the Evaluation Committee’s recommendation to select Recology Vacaville Solano as the City's new franchise hauler. The formal award of the Franchise Agreement will be considered on August 4th. Residents may attend this meeting in-person or online to provide comments.

No action is required from residents at this time. Republic Services will continue service through June 30, 2027. Recology will begin service on July 1, 2027, and residents will receive official communications approximately 30 days prior.

• July 16, 2026 – Community Meetings - Noon and 6pm
• August 4, 2026 – Council reviews and provides direction on award of the Franchise Agreement

Service Enhancements & Changes

• Street Sweeping: Five-day schedule (Mon–Fri), performed the day after trash service.
• Collection Schedule: Multi-day flexible schedule finalized in the Franchise Agreement.
• Bulky Waste & White Goods: Two (2) annual Bulky Waste Pick-Ups per calendar year; White Goods drop-off (appliances) at 1889 Walters Court by appointment.
• Landfills: Recology Hay Road (Vacaville) or Potrero Hills (Suisun City).
• Carts: Three-cart system continues; new 64-gallon option; cart change-out completed by July 1, 2027.
• Expanded Programs: Shredding events, holiday tree collection, sharps mail-back, battery drop-offs, compost giveaways, HHW drop-off, recycling buy-back center.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will billing overlap? Some residents may receive Republic invoices during the first month or two of Recology service starting on 7/1/27.

Do residents need to do anything for cart change-out? Residents may be asked to bring carts to the curb for change out.

Are landfill coupons included? The new Franchise Agreement does not include landfill credit coupons (currently $25 credit).  The new Agreement includes two (2) Bulky Waste Pick-Ups per calendar year as well as free White Goods (appliance) drop-offs five (5) days a week by appointment.
