Cities, County provide household garbage disposal options for residents during ongoing strike.
SOLANO COUNTY – The County of Solano and the Cities of Fairfield and Suisun City have established temporary drop-off sites for household garbage to assist residents affected by the ongoing solidarity strike by local Republic Services workers. Republic Services customers in the City of Fairfield, Suisun City, and unincorporated Solano County may use any of the temporary drop-off sites listed below. To ensure efficient operations, residents must present either a current Republic Services billing statement or a driver’s license showing an address in Fairfield, Suisun City, or unincorporated Solano County. Republic Services will provide private security at each location to verify eligibility and prevent illegal dumping of prohibited items.
Only household garbage is acceptable for drop-off and must be contained and secured in bags (no loose trash). Prohibited items are hazardous materials, tires, electronic waste, and bulky items such as mattresses, furniture, appliances, or lumber.
Temporary drop-off sites are open 24-hours Monday to Sunday
- Allan Witt Park, 1714 W. Texas Street, Fairfield
- Cordelia Community Park, 1300 Gold Hill Road, Fairfield
- Dunnell Nature Center, 3351 Hillridge Drive, Fairfield
- Republic Services, 2901 Industrial Court, Fairfield
- Solano Community College, 4000 Suisun Valley Road, Fairfield
Temporary drop-off site open daily: 7 a.m. – 9 p.m.
- Lambrecht Sports Complex, 4479 Petersen Road, Suisun City
In addition to the temporary sites listed above, Potrero Hills Landfill will continue to have a drop-off box at its entrance, located between Highway 12 and Scally Road, so residents can avoid traveling up to the scale house for drop-off. Residents are reminded to cover their load and secure items with tie-downs to prevent wind-blown litter.
Potrero Hills Landfill Drop-Off Option:
3675 Potrero Hills Lane, Suisun
Monday – Saturday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Why is this happening?
A nationwide strike by Republic Services waste disposal workers began last Tuesday when Teamsters Local 439 members in Stockton walked off the job. Republic Services workers in several Bay Area cities have joined the strike in solidarity. Local workers employed with Fairfield-based Republic Services are honoring picket lines and refusing to cross them in support of their fellow Teamsters even though the labor dispute does not directly involve local bargaining issues. As a result, trash collection has been disrupted in the City of Fairfield, City of Suisun City, and a portion of unincorporated Solano County.
