Rain Garden Community Build at Joseph Nelson Community Center

Join Sustainable Solano and Suisun City RPM Department to learn about sustainable landscape design and resilience to flood and drought, and help install a rain garden based on permaculture principles at the Joseph A. This public, hands-on installation workshop will create an environmentally resilient garden. It will be an opportunity to learn about rainwater capture through in-ground swales, water-efficient drip irrigation and how to plant and mulch for a waterwise, sustainable garden that builds healthy soil.

Participants will:

1) Dig swales

2) Distribute mulch and topsoil

3) Share lunch and learn about small-scale solutions for community resilience that you can bring to your own home

 

Some tips for the day:

*Wear closed-toe shoes, sun protection, bring gloves and a refillable water bottle

* Light lunch will be provided

*Bring your own lunch if you have specific dietary needs
