Suisun City Rain Garden Installation

Sustainable-Solano-Logo.png

Join Sustainable Solano to learn about sustainable landscape design, explore flood risks and solutions, and help install a rain garden based on permaculture principles at the Suisun City Hall!

This public, hands-on installation workshop will create an environmentally resilient garden in front of Suisun City Hall. It will be an opportunity to learn about rainwater capture, water-efficient drip irrigation and how to plant and mulch for a water-wise, sustainable garden that builds healthy soil.

This garden is being installed as part of an effort to demonstrate and share information about how Suisun City can utilize Nature-Based Solutions to bolster our community's climate resilience. Participants will have a chance to discuss different solutions to sea level rise and share their priorities for how the city addresses increased flood risk.

We expect this project to take one day, with the installation following the below agenda:

1) Digging swales

2) Distributing mulch and topsoil

3) Lunch/Learning about Nature-Based Solutions from the San Francisco Estuary Institute

4) Planting

5) Installing Irrigation

There may be short walking tours along the waterfront to discuss sea level rise if we have a large turnout!

Even if you are unable to participate in light or moderate physical activity, we encourage you to come and be part of creating this garden.

Suisun City residents (ages 14 and older) who attend for the entire workshop will be eligible to receive one of 30 available $50 gift cards in recognition of their time and participation. Gift cards will be delivered after the workshop to qualifying participants on a first come-first served basis. Government-affiliated participants are not eligible.

Some tips for the day:

*Wear closed-toe shoes, sun protection, bring gloves and a refillable water bottle

* Light lunch will be provided

*Bring your own lunch if you have specific dietary needs
