Housing Element - Update

The Public Review Draft Housing Element was released for a 30-day public review on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, ending on Friday September 16, 2022. Written comments on the Draft Housing Element were to be submitted by the deadline. The Planning Commission and City Council considered the Draft Housing Element at a joint meeting on Tuesday, August 30, 2022. The Commission and Council accepted public and written comments and directed Staff to revise the element and submit to the State Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). The HCD Submittal Draft Housing Element was submitted to HCD on 10/04/22 for a 90-day review. 2015-2023 Housing Element

The 2015-2023 Housing Element, which is Chapter 6 of the General Plan, provides residents and public officials with an understanding of the housing needs of the community, establishes the City’s strategy to preserve and enhance the community’s residential character, and expands and preserves housing opportunities.

The Housing Element works within the general framework of the Land Use Element, the Downtown Waterfront Specific Plan and Zoning Ordinance, which establish the type and intensity of future residential development within the City.
