In 2005, an application was filed with the Community Development Department for a Wal-Mart Supercenter to be constructed on 20.8 acres at the northwest corner of Highway 12 and Walters Road. Draft and Final environmental impact reports were prepared and circulated.
In 2008, the Planning Commission and the City Council accepted the adequacy of the reports and approved development plans for a 227,019-square-foot commercial development that included a Wal-Mart Supercenter, a sit-down restaurant, and a gas station with convenience store and car wash.
Shortly after the City Council’s final action, opponents of the project challenged the environmental studies in Superior Court and, ultimately, in the state Appellate Court. On August 20, 2010, the First District Court of Appeal upheld the project approvals issued by the Suisun City Council in 2008. The Court’s ruling was not appealed.
A condition of the approvals required Wal-Mart to receive all the necessary permits for the project from state and federal regulatory agencies. As of late 2011, Wal-Mart is working with those regulators to secure the necessary permits.
Below are links to all the environmental documentation and legal rulings associated with this project.
