While the 116,000-acre Suisun Marsh is teeming with life all year long, it is particularly impressive during the annual bird migration along the Pacific Flyway. Flocks of wild birds migrating from Canada to Central and South America often use Suisun Marsh as a waystation, offering bird watchers exciting opportunities to spot unique bird species. In January 2007, an Arctic Snowy Owl made a rare appearance this far south, thrilling bird lovers for nearly two months.

The California Sunset operates scheduled and charter tours from the Suisun City Marina. Guided by Capt. Dan Thiemann, novice &Â experienced bird-watchers alike will enjoy the standard 90-minute tour about 6 miles into the heart of Suisun Marsh.
This is a perfect outing for families and groups. Specialty charters of varying durations and for special occasions (such as weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, company parties, etc.) are available, including food packages. The California Sunset docks adjacent to Harbor Plaza in the heart of the Suisun City Waterfront District at Main & Solano Streets. Ample free public parking available. |

Kayaking provides the most up-close experience possible for adventurous bird-watchers. As a silent part of the environment, kayakers can explore numerous sloughs and waterways impassable for motorized vessels.
Sunset Bay Kayaks offers lessons, rentals, group tours and equipment sales right from the Waterfront Promenade just south of the Harbormaster's Office. Ample free public parking available. |

The Suisun Wildlife Center is a terrific family-friendly way to learn about the animals and ecosystem of Suisun Marsh while staying on dry land and close to town. The Center's main function is to rehabilitate orphaned wildlife for release back into the wild. It does offer a public education center and several resident animals on display.
The Center is directly adjacent to the Peytonia Slough Preserve, which is managed by the California Department of Fish &Â Game, at the southern end of Kellogg Street. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., but can vary somewhat seasonally. Ample free public parking available. Numerous special members' events are scheduled annually. |

Rush Ranch, managed by the Solano Land Trust, is the site of an original family homestead of the Suisun City area. Not only is the ranch site operated as a working museum of an earlier area, the ranch acreage includes terrific upland and marsh environments for discovering wildlife all year long. Several different trails are available to guide access to outlying areas of the ranch.
Rush Ranch is located just south of Suisun City on Grizzly Island Road. Admission is free Tuesday to Saturday. Ample free public parking available. Numerous special events are scheduled annually, including a blacksmith demonstration on the 3rd Saturday each month. |
